Art of Aromas 2019

This year, for the third time ever, we hosted the Art of Aromas Scholarship Competition. On the first of March, we sent eight students from Miami Arts Charter Homestead home with a total of $4,600 to put towards their future, encouraging their artistic paths forward.

The Art of Aromas competition was born in 2016 and was the first project put on by the Doctor Aromas Foundation — the non-profit associated with Doctor Aromas. The focus of the Doctor Aromas Foundation is to incorporate charity and inspiration behind what we do on a day to day basis. We have a special focus on fragrance research and its application as a part of the creative process, often encouraging multi-sensory or multi-media art forms. Thanks to our continued support and patronage as a company, we are able to grow our non-profit sector in order to continue inspiring and helping students reach for their goals.

This year, students worked with Verde by the Sea. It is an herbaceous and citrusy fragrance with notes of Wild Lavender, Magnolia and Bergamot. Part of the stipulation for entering is that the work not only be inspired by the scent, but also be included in the piece. It was exciting to see students’ interpretations, especially the focus on the citrusy bergamot notes that appeared in the works this year.

The judges this time around were Curator Mali Parkerson, Gallery Owner Troy Taylor, and Perfumer Arnaud Winter. All three judges have their unique backgrounds, and brought with them their specific strengths and expertise. They spent the afternoon at MAC on the 28th of February viewing and taking note of the entries, deliberating, and coming to an agreement on the winners.

Of course, we want to offer a huge congratulations to all the winners and honorable mentions! That being said, we are so proud of all ninety-one students who submitted their work. It is evident how much effort was put into every single piece. We are very thankful for the opportunity to put on this event with such talented and passionate people overall! Keep on creating and we hope to see you all next year!
